Creator Terms
Last updated: October 2026
These terms apply to anyone who publishes a score on Cesure's marketplace, the "creator". You accept them by ticking the box provided at the "Rights" step of publishing, before your first publication and again for each new version of these terms; the version accepted and its date are recorded on your account. A publication for a price is refused as long as the version in force is not accepted. They complement the Terms & Conditions (cesure.app/terms). The French version is the authoritative one; the English and Spanish versions are translations of it.
Publishing:
- Any Cesure account, private person or business, can publish, for free or at a price. Cesure reviews nothing before it goes live: the score is online as soon as it is published, and anyone can report it.
- What goes out is a frozen version of the score, as you checked it in the player. Your later edits stay private until you republish a new version, which its buyers then receive when they choose.
- You set your price, in euros: it is what you get for each sale, on the web, on Android and on iPhone, whatever the buyer's country, card or currency. What a buyer will pay shows while you choose it.
- You choose the few measures of the free preview: only those are shown before purchase.
Your declaration:
- When publishing, you declare what you publish: an original work you are the author of; a public-domain work, with its composer and year of death, which Cesure checks is out of its term of protection; or the arrangement of an existing piece, with its title and artist.
- An arrangement of an existing piece can only be published for free, as can a score whose license does not allow Cesure to sell it (ShareAlike, NonCommercial, NoDerivatives…).
- You certify that your declaration is accurate by ticking the box provided. It is dated and shown on the score's page, under your responsibility; Cesure does not check it before publication.
- You warrant that you hold the rights this publication requires, and that the score infringes no one's rights. A false declaration leads to the score's removal and to its sales being taken back from your balance.
The license you grant Cesure:
- For each score you publish, you grant Cesure a non-exclusive license of the digital reproduction and performance rights, worldwide, for as long as the score is published: to store it, make its preview and the image of its page, show it in the catalog and on its page, sell it in its own name and deliver it to its buyers, with Cesure's exports.
- It is non-exclusive: you remain free to distribute or sell your work elsewhere.
- A buyer keeps the personal right to use the copy they acquired, even after you withdraw it.
- A free score is published under the same license, without payment.
Your earnings:
- Cesure is the seller: it takes the price, collects the VAT, provides the proof of purchase and handles refunds.
- The buyer pays your price plus Cesure's service fee (20% of your price, at least €0.50), then the VAT Cesure must collect from them. Out of that fee Cesure pays every banking cost — card, whatever its origin, tax calculation, exchange, rounding, the Stripe Connect fees of your payouts, the exchange of a payout in another currency —, never you; a partial refund takes back the same share of your price.
- In the mobile apps, the price is raised to cover the store's commission as well (App Store, Google Play): you get the same price as for a sale on the web.
Your payouts:
- Payouts go through Stripe Connect Express. You activate them from Cesure; Stripe then verifies your identity, not at publication.
- A sale enters a payout 30 days after its payment. Payouts are monthly, once the amount due — your sales older than 30 days, minus the takebacks — reaches €25; otherwise it waits for the next month.
- Every sale, takeback and payout is detailed in "Sales and payouts".
Tax and social withholdings:
- By exploiting your works, Cesure has the obligations of a distributor of authors' works under French social security law. When activating payouts, you state your tax situation.
- Creator resident for tax purposes in France: Cesure withholds the authors' social security contributions (précompte), unless you give it an exemption valid for the year. Cesure gives you a withholding certificate every year.
- Non-resident creator: Cesure applies the withholding tax of article 182 B of the French General Tax Code, or the reduced rate of a tax treaty upon the required form.
- Creator incorporated as a company: nothing is withheld.
- These withholdings apply at the rates in force on the date of the payout. The distributor's contribution of 1.1% is paid by Cesure and never deducted from your share.
Reports, removal and appeal:
- Any score can be reported for its rights, its content or an error. Cesure handles reports by hand: no score leaves the catalog on reports alone.
- Cesure can dismiss a report, ask you for a correction, or remove the score for infringing rights or for illegal content. A correction asked or a removal comes with its reason, shown to you in "My publications".
- A removal by Cesure cuts every buyer's access and refunds each payment; your share of each of those sales is taken back from your balance, including from an upcoming payout.
- A sale Cesure refunds because the score does not match its page or cannot be read is taken back from your earnings.
- You can contest a removal from "My publications": your appeal joins the same queue, and Cesure can reinstate the listing. You also keep the option of going to court.
- You can withdraw a score from sale yourself at any time: its buyers keep their copy and the versions already published, and your share of their purchases stays yours.
- Deleting your account takes your scores off sale and out of the catalog; their buyers keep them.
Personal data:
- The data Cesure processes for your publications and payouts is described in the Privacy Policy (cesure.app/privacy).
Governing law:
- These terms are governed by French law. Any question about them goes to contact@cesure.app.
